1989 Suburban --$2200 OBO
This vehicle was purchased used in 2003 with about 143,000 miles on the non-original odometer. It now has around 165,000 on it. The Suburban is very sound mechanically but my wife didn't like driving it (the height makes it hard to load up little kids and it has manual lock-outs on it), so it's time for it to go. The interior is in average condition with no tremendous damage present. It runs good and and gets decent fuel mileage (for a big SUV, 14-15 mpg).
Specs: 350fi, automatic tranny with OD, 3.42 gears, 4x4, manual lock-outs, front/rear AC (needs annual charging), AM/FM/Tape, barn doors, Rubber is all better than 50% (31 x 10.5 on 15" spoked rims). Below is a list of work that was recently done on this rig.
In the last 10,000 miles: 1) Tranny flush, 2) two new tires, 3) new exhaust system from manifold back and 4) normal maintenance (drain refill transfer case, front and rear axels and the oil was changed every 2000 miles)
In the last 5000 miles: 1) I rebuilt the front end (one new rotor and hub, new bearings, races and seals for both sides, new Warn manual lock-out hubs, new axel u-joints and seals and new brake pads, 2) A used, low-mile rear axel was put in (new spider gears) along with new rear shocks, brake pads and drive shaft u-joints, 3) Two new tires and a new upper radiator hose
Existing problems: 1) The body is rough with some rust at the wheel wells and sill plates, 2) the front driver fender needs replaced and the windshield is cracked, 3) the AC system has a slow leak so must be recharged every year, and 4) the power steering has a pretty good leak.
Overall, this rig would make an excellent hunting vehicle or a second 4x4 for those times when you need to haul a bunch of people and gear when the roads get bad. Has excellent ground clearance and with a little work on the body, could still be a sharp ride!
Picture of passenger side, molding is mostly intact but typical of an older vehicle. I do have a set of automatic lock-out hubs if a purchaser is interested.
Picture of front. Everything is intact with no missing pieces.
Picture of drivers side. Notice lack of molding on front fender (close-up picture shown below). Also notice some rust damage and lack of molding on rear fender.
Close-up of front fender. It was this way when I bought it and I never had time to throw another fender on. The damage looks ugly but doesn't impact how the vehicle turns or runs.
Close-up of passenger rear fender showing some rust damage getting started in the fender.
Rear view showing barn doors and interior. Comes with a full size spare but it does not have the third row seat.
Interior is pretty clean for an older vehicle but has some cracks in dash and is missing a few pieces (like the chrome door pull anchor covers). The power windows all work but the power door locks do not. I did replace the rear AC switch when I first got the vehicle so that all works correctly. The cruise control works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't.
